  Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my blog for ‘The Enchanted Riddle’, Book One of the magical, mysterious SCARLET STOCKINGS book trilogy.

I’m so glad you found the blog and look forward to replying to your messages.  Write me!  And of course, I hope you’ll read Chapter One online, get the book and post your comments.

When I began the book, I thought really hard about what KIND of a book I wanted to write.  I knew right away it had to be the sort of book I loved  when I was your age, and used to stay up all night reading, because I HAD to find out what happened next!

Hmmmm,., what would it be like?  It had to have MAGIC, MYSTERY, ADVENTURE, GLAMOUR, FUN and EXCITEMENT.

Harry Potter hadn’t been written then, so my favorite books were The Chronicles of Narnia and Anne of Green Gables.  Have you read those?  The greatest!

In my book I wanted an adventurous heroine and a TOTALLY evil meanie, even WORSE than Cruella DeVil!

I hope I created them.  I know I sure had fun writing the book.

I hope you have fun reading it.

Talk to you again soon.

Charlotte

I was just wondering if you ever got the second book published, Daphne in Danger. Because I really liked The Scarlet Stockings. The next time I go to the Library I am going to get it out and read it again.I am going to tell my little sister to read it when she's old enough.

Hi Maddi, Thank you so much for emailing me. I loved hearing from you. The second book in THE SCARLET STOCKINGS TRILOGY is called ‘Daphne in Danger’. The third book is called THE YELLOW BUTTERFLY OF KHALIMAR, and is partly set in the magical continent of India. I have written the second book (all your favorite characters will return) and I have planned out the third book. At this time I cannot give you confirmed publication dates. But do encourage all your friends to read the first book as that will make the second book happen quicker! Meanwhile, thank you SO MUCH for writing to me. Affectionately, Charlotte

Hello Hannah, Nice to hear from you. Only the first book in the trilogy, THE SCARLET STOCKINGS:THE ENCHANTED RIDDLE is in published form at this time (although I have completed the MS of book 2 and have outlined book 3). It would be great if you thought the book suitable for your club. Of course I would be delighted to phone in to a meeting and answer questions if you choose the book and once your members have read it. WELL DONE BIG TIME for your work in getting kids to read. Warmest regards, Charlotte Kandel

Hi there, Charlotte here. Thanks so much for writing to me and for your lovely words about The Scarlet Stockings. I have written book two and it is called Daphne in Danger. I am telling everyone who liked book One, The Enchanted Riddle to tell their friends! When enough people have bought that book it will be time for Daphne in Danger!!!! Pass it on!! No Ova Andova is not ’real’, I made her up. Isn’t she just AWFUL (and Grushka too). WORSE than Cruella deVil!!!!! I loved hearing from you. Charlotte

Dear Charlotte, I just love this book. It is a wonderful story. I've read it 3 times already! I was wondering if Ova Andova is a real person? Do you know when is Part 2 coming out? Thanks, Jan

Charlotte Kandel says:
Dear Emmy, Thanks so much for asking about whether there will be more Daphne adventures. As you'll see on this blog in my reply to other readers, YES, I am happy to tell you that there will be! I can't tell you exactly when, though, but hopefully in about a year. In the new book Daphne really gets herself into hot water, so lots more magic! Do you happen to belong to a book club? Because if you do we can make an arrangement for me to call when the club is all together and I can tell you and your friends more about DAPHNE IN DANGER. That would be fun. So let me know. Affectionately, Charlotte

Alexandra, I am sorry to say that I do not think I will be coming to Dubai anytime soon. But you can go to my website at www.scarletstockings.com and there you can see photos of me. My favorite one is the one of me with my HUGE cat whose name is Brummell. He is a British Blue. They have the most wonderful blue grey thick, thick fur that you can bury your face in. Goodbye and thank you for getting in touch with me. Hugs Charlotte

Hi Alexandra, What a lovely, lovely email to get on a rainy morning in Los Angeles. Thank you so much for writing to me. Now I have some questions for you. How old are you? Were you born in Dubai? Or did your parents move there from another country, perhaps for a job? Of course I wonder how you came to read The Scarlet Stockings. I am so very happy that you like it so much because I tried to write the sort of book that I would have loved to read when I was probably your age. I don't want your friends to fight over getting their hands on the book!If you like you can tell them that if they want to get their very own copies they can order them on Amazon.com. (There are new ones and I know that Amazon also has some formerly owned copies which cost less than buying them new). Perhaps you could start a book club in Dubai and all read the book together and talk about it!

Hi Emily, I loved hearing from you and am so happy you enjoyed The Enchanted Riddle. I had so much fun writing it and imagining how the awful Ova and Grushka would talk! I went to Russia before I wrote the book so that I could get a good look at St. Petersburg where they’re from and listen to Russian people speaking English. That’s one of the great things about writing, doing the research. Maybe you’re a writer, too? I hope the second book, Daphne in Danger will be out soon. You can help by spreading the word to your friends about The Scarlet Stockings! Thank you again for taking the time to write to me. Affectionately, Charlotte

Dear Raphaelia, I loved hearing from you. Yes, of course I was a Ballet Shoes fan too! Did you know there are two other books in the series called Theatre Shoes and Skating Shoes? I am VERY proud to be in your personal hall of Fame with J.K. Rowling and Eleanor Estes. I am hoping to have news soon about ‘Daphne in Danger’ the second in the Daphne chronicles. Oh boy, wait til you see what Ova gets up to in that! Boo! Hiss! Have you ever thought about writing a story about your own experiences in ballet class. If you do I’d love to read it and would post it on my website. Let me know. Thank you again. Affectionately, Charlotte

Raphaelia says:
Hello Charlotte, I have been trying to find fictional books on ballet ever since I read Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield. It came as a pleasant shock when I happened across your book in the library. My eyes devoured every word written. The story is wonderful. I am glad you wrote it. You are in my authour hall of fame with J.K Rowling and Eleanor Estes. When is the second book coming out? I am interested to see what will happen to Daphne. I am taking ballet classes myself and I love every minute. This book conveyed my feelings perfectly! Sincerely, Raphaelia N.

Charlotte Kandel says:
Dear Rachel, Thank you so much for getting in touch with me. I really appreciate your comments. I tried very hard to get all the ballet references right, so important since I knew the book would be read by dancers. Since more and more people are reading the books because their friends have enjoyed it, I do hope you'd feel comfortable recommending The Scarlet Stockings to any of your friends (even if they aren't dancers like you!) whom you think would like it too. Meanwhile, I hope your dancing is going well. Charlotte

Rachel says:
Dear Mrs.Kandel, Thank you so so so so much for writing this book. I too am a ballerina just like Daphne. Being a ballerina made the book much more interesting since I understand ballet terms. I am looking forward to book two.~Rachel

Hello Kirsten, I am delighted you enjoyed The Scarlet Stockings and that your daughter is enjoying it, too. Thank you so very much for writing to let me know, and for stocking and recommending the book. It’s vital to spread the word as widely as possible, since, as you know, that’s what will move up the publication date of Book Two, ‘Daphne in Danger’, which is already written and ready to go! Once I do have a publication date, I’m planning on putting up the first chapter on the website. So thank you again. Do let me know know the book does in your store. Warmest regards, Charlotte Kandel
